The concept of hiring a company to pack up and move your household or office goods locally or Internationally is not a new one. Companies such as these have been around since as early as the 1800s, during the construction of the railroad lines that connected the East coast and the West coast of the United States. During the time of these moving services, many moves were completed using the latest technological advancements of that era. Even though these inventions are long obsolete, items such as a horse-drawn carriage and wooden flatbed were used to haul goods from one location to another. Shortly after this, the first gasoline engines were created. Obviously technology has advanced since these things were around.
Today it is uncommon to find a moving company that does not utilize technology in some form or another. Companies who do not want to become irrelevant or forgotten will quickly jump onto the bandwagon. The time of calling a moving company to arrange a move is long gone, replaced with a heavier reliance on the internet in order to research and book different companies based on what a specific consumer wants.
Many people are using the internet as opposed to phone book directories or asking around in order to find moving companies. The most successful websites for the moving industry are ones who's primary focus is the moving industry. Websites with the best ratings and reception are ones who allow customers to come in direct contact with moving companies in order to find a company that is capable of suiting their moving needs. Any company who doesn't have an online presence is bound to see the consequences rather quickly. This is unfortunately the case due to the rising popularity of the internet in the last decade or so. The vast majority of Americans conduct most of their business online, and this is why it is so important for movers to take advantage of the powerful advertising and connection freedom that technology can provide.
Something that has been a common issue for people who wish to relocate is that many of them lack the ability to find a moving company that has the ability to do interstate moves. Many people who choose to have a moving company transport them long distance often expect to receive a full-service move as well. So much more than just renting a truck, these types of moves often consist of having a team of movers load your goods into the bed of a moving truck, take the truck to your new place of residence or business, unload the goods from the truck and take them in the home, and sometimes even unpack all of your goods once they are off the truck. While this may seem like way more than wha is needed for a move of any length, it has been proven that this is the preferred method of many American movers. People are using the internet to book such full service moves from the comfort of their own home, without the need to ever have to even make one phone call. Also, the presence of moving companies on the internet caters a lot to the busy lifestyle of the average American. Many moving websites have become suitable for use on mobile devices, meaning that consumers can book moves anytime and anywhere. These moves can also be booked as soon as 5 days before the date of the actual move.
It seems as though one of the largest impacts that the adoption of the internet has had on the industry is the now-common use of a referral system. After a move has been done and paid for, the customer has the option of leaving a review of the company online. There are literally dozens of different websites where people can share their opinions regarding the quality of services provided by the company, as well as how easy they were to work with an how economical they are. The ability to share this with others is a key factor in the promotion of good and honest relocation companies, as well as a growing intolerance of bad ones.
Moving has evolved a lot in the past couple hundred years or so, and will only continue to change as the world around us does as well.

Did you know that 1 out of 5 families in the United States find themselves moving from one place to another? If you are reading this, you are likely one of these families. Moving can be considered one of the most stressful events of a person’s life, as the process of relocation poses many challenges when it comes to organization.
People often find it the most difficult to try and complete a task that does not fit their usual routine, or the way they are used to getting things done. It is hard to figure out the best way to get something of such magnitude done without at least a little guidance and support. That’s where we come in. Below area few tips and tricks compiled by the industry experts at Acclaimed Moving and Storage on how to make the most organized move you can.
The first tip we recommend is to select a location where you can maintain some organization during this time of intense disarray.
It is extremely difficult to lay out the massive piles of paperwork and take a look at things on a desk that has to be packed up in a few hours. You will also be receiving a plethora of business cards and flyers from desperate freelance workers who promise to help you with your move in some way, shape or form.
The first step to creating an organized “move central” is to have a binder or notepad specifically for the move. This is where you can keep your moving paperwork, copies of important documents you may need for the moving process, etc. Look for a business planner or something of this sort. You should get one of these during the very early period of the move. When you are looking for a home to move in to, for example, you will use your planner to keep track of the homes that you have looked at, as well as phone numbers to people such as real estate agents, moving companies, landlords, gardeners, plumbers, electricians, and other people that you will likely come to hate rather quickly. Also use this to keep track of business cards you will get for companies that you may have an interest in doing business with in the future.
Have a clear pouch in the binder or organizer that is filled with interior home samples, such as tile samples, paint samples, carpeting, and drapery. Also have section or envelope within the organizer for costs related to restoring the place you are moving from. You will want to have another one for travel to and from the new home, and any other group costs that you feel you may need to keep track of. This will save a lot of time when tax season rolls around. After you complete the move, use the organizer to schedule appointments for electricity, water, internet and TV service, and other essentials that need to be set up. Use your planner to with down any other information that might be important to you later, such as the name of a good doctor that a neighbor told you about, or a babysitter that needs work.
In order for this planner to be effective, you must keep it with you at all times during the moving process. You can even use it as a temporary replacement for your purse or bag, since it has outside pockets.
Another tip for having a more organized move is to ensure that you have a box packed for essentials that you absolutely cannot live without.
Include things such as bedsheets, blankets, a kettle, beloved children's toys, and whatever else you feel as though you can’t live without. Make sure this box stands out from the other boxes, and make sure that this is the last box to go on the truck, or perhaps keep it with you at all times. Also ensure that you have chargers for all of your portable devices, such as laptops and tablets.
Another great tip for a more organized move is to label, label, label.
You can choose to make pretty handwritten labels, or just make computer generated ones. Stop by an office supply store and get several packs of the cheapest computer labels you can find. Then, use whatever word processing software you have and print up hundreds of labels (yes, hundreds) and let them print out. Then, stick them onto each and every box you have. Give some to the movers as well. The labels should have names of different areas of your home on them.
Lastly, make sure you create labels for each and every room in your new home, so anyone who is helping you get into the new location will have a clue as to where everything goes.
Here are the supplies you will need for your move. By gathering them yourself, you will save tons of money, as moving companies often charge a fee which amounts to more than market value for materials.
▪ Packing tape. This is not your average clear tape, but rather an extra strong adhesive that will keep your entire move together. Make sure you get as many rolls as possible, because it goes fast during a full-scale relocation.
▪ Industrial moving boxes. You will need cardboard containers of varying sizes. Additionally, all boxes need to be completely intact with no tears, missing pieces, or damage. Any damage can ruin the integrity of the box and leave your belongings susceptible to harm.
▪ Packing paper. Commonly, newsprint is used as packing paper. However, in using newspaper to wrap and pack your items, you run the risk of having ink smear all over everything it touches. This includes not only your personal belongings, but your fingers and any surface you touch between the time you pack and the time you wash all the ink off your hands. It’s recommended to purchase paper designed specifically for moving, or perhaps bubble wrap with small bubbles to give your fragile items the most reinforced protection possible.
▪ Moving blankets. These are essential for padding and protecting your large items, as well as the buildings they will enter and exit. Sharp corners on pieces of furniture can leave a nasty mark if you’re not careful, which could result in damage to a building you own, or the loss of a security deposit in a space you’re renting. Get moving blankets for your couches, tables, desks, etc. and make sure that they have ample padding so that items or buildings don’t end up nicked, scratched, or dented.
▪ Shrink wrap. This will keep your moving blankets from shifting during the move. You’ll need ample amounts of shrink wrap, so that you can wrap it around the outside of your moving blanket-covered items to keep your protection snug and your furniture safe inside.
